  3. FESTIVAL OF LIVING: LIFT-OFF '96 ..OF, BY, FOR THE PEOPLE

  7.      Hard lessons were given on April 19, 1995 at 9:02 A.M. in
  8.      Oklahoma City. DEVASTATION, CHAOS, PAIN, DEATH. Followed by
  9.      HELPING HANDS, LOVE-LOFTED RESOURCES, HEALING, RENEWALIs one hard
  10.      lesson that we need to learn: "To develop a world which spawns
  11.      and encourages strong families, creating a caring community for
  12.      each family member within their community? When Families
  13.      Understand Nurturing of their children, the comunity is
  14.      strengthened and families and communities can have FUN and
  15.      celebrate LIFE.While the April 19, 1995 bombing of the Alfred P.
  16.      Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City is unfortunately not the
  17.      only tragedy perpetrated by violent action, it has seized
  18.      national attention due to its location and magnitude. As many
  19.      have noted, this seems to be serving as a "wake-up call" for
  20.      action to stem the tide of violence and bring civility to our
  21.      society. The explosion was not only felt by persons in the
  22.      surrounding area that morning, but continues to impact our nation
  23.      in a rippling effect.The theme: HONORING THOSE WHO DIED BY
  24.      HELPING THOSE WHO LIVE will be supported by efforts through two
  25.      different focuses. One focus is primarily involving those who
  26.      were directly affected by the bombing incident. Local people are
  27.      being invited to join in a group effort in expressing their
  28.      feelings through song which may become distributed through groups
  29.      organized to support themselves as survivors and victims of this
  30.      event. The Festival will create and stimulate efforts which
  31.      buttress: FAMILIES, FRIENDSHIP, and FAITH with a focus on the
  32.      positives of *people caring and sharing* through the "Golden
  33.      Rule" which is present in all faiths of the world. Stated a
  34.      little differently it carries the meaning "Do things to benefit
  35.      yourself and others".When we recongize the little known (1)
  36.      heroes as helping hands, (2) places and (3) events which
  37.      contribute to the development of families and communities across
  38.      the United States, it strengthens our ties as Americans to the
  39.      heritage of our nation. It demonstrates what individuals,
  40.      families, and communitites contribute to a nation *of, by and for
  41.      the people.* Least we forget the very essence of the strengths of
  42.      the founders and preservers of our freedoms.National Community
  43.      Education Association and the Oklahoma Center for Community
  44.      Education offer you the opportunity to tell your story as you
  45.      discover the "Hidden Treasure" of the strengths of individuals
  46.      who are part of your heritage.May festivals with the maypole
  47.      dance interweave the colorful ribbons illustrating the
  48.      multifaceted population as our community! It's a day to
  49.      BE-A-FRIEND, sharing the May basket of flowers - doing something
  50.      which is anonymous with no thought of return! Perhaps it's the
  51.      time to find out how grandparents were part of making their
  52.      community a better place to live. Or, some may need to share a
  53.      story which "teaches" someone from the younger generation - by
  54.      sharing a saved treasure from the past and how it represents a
  55.      "value" that is important to the owner. That value may be simply
  56.      told - how working together has brought people from all over the
  57.      world to be a part of an exciting adventure - the future of our
